Abstract

This study aims to examine and determined the impact of this reading intervention "Catch-up Fridays (DEAR) Drop Everything and Read" program on the reading performance of Grade 3 pupils of Cogon Elementary School. The DEAR program, which is conducted every Friday, entails a designated period during which all pupils and teachers leave aside their regular chores to focus completely on reading materials of their choice. This campaign aims to develop a reading culture, increase literacy skills, and instill a love of learning in young children. The study used a mixed-methods research methodology, integrating quantitative and qualitative methodologies to assess the program's performance. Pre- and post-intervention evaluations were used to track changes in reading fluency, comprehension, and overall performance of Grade 3 pupils of Cogon Elementary School. Standardized reading exams were used to collect quantitative data before and after the program was implemented, while qualitative insights were gained through interviews and surveys of parents and teachers
