Abstract

Malay apple (Syzygium malaccense) plants are known to have various benefits. Parts of the fruit, seeds, leaves and stem bark are known to have antioxidant activity. Previous studies showed that ethanol extracts and methanol extracts of malay apple (Syzygium malaccense) seeds have antioxidant activity using the DPPH method. The extract was fractionated tested for antioxidant activity. The most active fraction was separated using VLC and then separated using preparative TLC. The subfractions tested for antioxidant activity using DPPH method. The results showed that ethanol extract sample had antioxidant activity, while the fraction showed that ethyl acetate fraction showed the best antioxidant activity. The subfraction separation results that the subfraction F2 showed the best antioxidant activity with very strong intensity.
